Today, we’re talking about supplements for women.
Let me be clear. I am not a doctor—just a perimenopausal woman who experienced a mysterious health scare, did my research, and found four supplements for women that have completely changed how I feel.
With that being said, always consult a health care provider before taking any over-the-counter supplement.
Truthfully, I cannot say the following supplements are ONLY for women, but I absolutely believe they can be especially beneficial to us.
If you’re tired of feeling run-down or not like yourself, keep reading.
How It All Started
Three years ago, I experienced a sudden and stressful health scare. I suffered through unexplained tachycardia, high blood pressure, a bounding pulse, weird neurological sensations, muscle twitches, and weight loss.
My energy levels were all over the place; work suffered, and my sleep was non-existent.
I was miserable.
I saw a cardiologist, PCP, and neurologist, yet no solution. All of my tests came back normal. I received a diagnosis of unexplained tachycardia and was sent home to take beta blockers and anti-anxiety meds.
But I wanted to address the root of the problem, not just mask the symptoms with drugs.
After many stress-filled nights and a lot of prayer, God led me to research and absorb everything I could about supplements that might balance and support my body. A few weeks into my new supplement routine, my body began to respond.
My energy, heart rate, cholesterol, and sleep have all improved thanks to these four daily additions.
1. Vitamin D3 + K2:
Let’s talk about Vitamin D3 + K2. I always thought getting outside for some sunshine was enough, but it turns out most of us—especially Black women—aren’t getting the Vitamin D we need.
Adding K2 into the mix helps direct calcium where it belongs (like your bones) instead of where it shouldn’t be (like your arteries).
Why I Swear By It:
- My immune system is stronger than it has ever been.
- My mood feels more calm and balanced, and I’m not as irritable.
- It’s great for bone health and supports a healthy heart.
How I Take It:
I take one capsule every day along with my Omega-3 fish oil. It’s the perfect little boost to start my day. My favorite brand is from Seeking Health.
2. Magnesium Glycinate:
If you’re struggling to fall asleep or wake up feeling like you haven’t slept at all, Magnesium Glycinate is a must. It’s a super gentle form of magnesium that’s easy on your stomach but works wonders for relaxation and rest.
What It’s Done for Me:
- Magnesium glycinate allowed me to sleep through the night. That in itself is a pretty big deal.
- My body feels less tense and achy after long days.
- It’s helped me feel calmer and more grounded.
How I Take It:
I take it about an hour before bed, along with my nightly tea. For this one, my favorite brand is Nature Made High Absorption Magnesium Glycinate.
3. Omega-3s:
When I first heard about Omega-3s, I wasn’t sure they were for me. But after giving them a shot, I noticed some serious improvements. They’re a must-have in my routine now.
Why I Love My Omega-3s:
- I notice an improvement in my focus and memory
- My good cholesterol levels have improved into the normal range. Yay!
- My chronic dry eyes have improved. This, my friend, is a miracle. I’m not cured, but I’m so so much better.
When I Take It:
I love to take Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega at lunchtime along with my D3 plus K2. Many experts suggest pairing it with something fatty for better absorption.
4. Methylated B Complex:
Let’s talk about B vitamins. I didn’t realize how essential they are until I started taking a methylated B Complex, which is easier for your body to absorb if you’ve got certain genetic quirks (which I think I do).
How It’s Helped Me:
- I feel more energized throughout the day, usually within hours
- My mind feels clear—like the brain fog has lifted.
- I swear it helped to heal my wrist pain.
My Routine:
I take it first thing in the morning along with my electrolyte powder, and it sets the tone for my day. I use a methylated version called Seeking Health B Complex Plus.
Again, methylated supplements are for people with certain genetic mutations, such as MTHFR or MTRR variations, who may have difficulty obtaining these nutrients from food alone. Seeking health also offers a methyl-free version for those who do not require a methylated supplement.
My Simple Wellness Routine
The best part about this routine? It’s simple. Here’s what I do:
- Morning: Methylated B Complex plus my electrolyte powder on an empty stomach
- Lunch: Omega-3s plus Vitamin D3 + K2 with something fatty.
- Evening: Magnesium Glycinate before bed.
That’s it. Nothing fancy, but it works.
