My Go-To Matcha Latte with Almond Milk

Lately, I’ve been trying to cut back and give my body a break from the ups and downs of caffeine. That’s where this matcha latte with almond milk comes in.

It’s my new favorite way to switch things up. It gives me good clean energy in a focused kind of way. No jitters. No afternoon crash. Just a calm boost that helps me feel really good.

Why I’m Alternating Coffee and Matcha

Let me be clear: I love my coffee. But drinking it every day, I started noticing it just wasn’t helping my energy levels as much. I realized I needed a better option to help me push through the day—especially when I’m working from home and need to focus.

Matcha has been the perfect substitute. It’s got just enough caffeine (about a third of what’s in coffee), plus l-theanine, an amino acid that promotes calm alertness. So while coffee gives me that fast burst and subsequent crash, matcha feels more like a smooth lift that lasts.

My Favorite Iced Matcha Latte Ingredients

To keep things simple, here’s what I’ve been using:

  • 1 tsp Teaspot matcha (I like their ceremonial grade for lattes). Use whatever brand you like.

  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk. You could also use whole milk, or sweetened almond milk for a richer taste.

  • ¼ cup hot water (not boiling)

  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

  • Ice cubes
  • Monk fruit sweetener to taste (I do about 1–2 tiny scoops)

  • Tall glass or tumbler with straw

This drink is so creamy and comforting. It satisfies my craving for something cold and sweet, but without the heavy crash or sugar overload.

How I Make a Matcha Latte With Almond Milk

It takes less than 5 minutes!

  1. Whisk the matcha powder in the glass with 1/4 cup of hot water until smooth and frothy. I like to use a battery operated milk frother for this.
  2. Pour the almond milk over the matcha and add the vanilla extract
  3. Add ice cubs

  4. Sweeten to taste with monk fruit or stevia; give it a quick stir and enjoy!

Optional:

  • Sprinkle cinnamon on top

  • Skip the ice and make it with warm almond milk for a cozy treat

Why It Works for Me

I still have my morning coffee most days, but I’ve been swapping in this matcha latte in the afternoons—or even starting the day with it if I want something lighter.

It helps with my focus, curbs my cravings (especially when I use monk fruit), and supports my metabolism. Plus, almond milk keeps it dairy-free and low-cal, which fits with my current health goals.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve been thinking about cutting back on coffee—or just want a soothing drink that still gives you a little pep—this matcha latte with almond milk is worth trying. It’s easy to make, full of antioxidants, and honestly just feels good to sip on.

Let me know if you give it a try, or if you have a favorite way to enjoy matcha—I’m always looking for new combos!
